The indoor markets of Cagliari: San Benedetto

It is in its crowd of vendors and buyers and its vibrant atmosphere that the San Benedetto market still holds its timeless charm.

The San Benedetto civic market in the district of the same name was opened in 1957 and at 8,000 square metres is the largest indoor market in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. The historic two-level structure houses dozens of different boxes and a vast selection of high quality meats, fruit and vegetables, and foodstuffs among the most typical of Sardinia and Cagliari, such as fresh fish.

Visiting the San Benedetto market, so loved and frequented by locals as to be known more simply as ‘The market‘, you will discover Sardinian food and wine treasures between sea and land. Locals usually do their shopping but they also like to drop by the market area early in the morning for breakfast or a snack.

With the tour of San Benedetto you will get to know one of the most authentic and lively places in the city of Cagliari, a place full of life, intense fragrances of seasonal products, and you will taste some of the products with strong and typical flavours of our island, chosen for you from among the best cheeses, sweets, different types of bread, or the fish foil, for a sensory experience you will not forget.
