Treasure of Culture and Flavours
Selargius, just 10 minutes from Cagliari, presents itself today as a treasure chest of historical treasures and flavours that reflect its identity as a rich and inhabited territory since ancient times. Uncrowded, it reserves for curious visitors, in search of authentic flavors, one surprise after another. In the small historical center there are many points of interest within walking distance of each other, such as the Archaeological Museum housed in the building of the former Aragonese prison; or around the corner, the Romanesque Church of San Giuliano, guarded by the Confraternity of the Madonna of the Rosario. A little further on are the 1500s Churches of Sant'Antonio (guarded by the Confraternity of the Virgin of Itria) and that of the Blessed Virgin Assumption. Another important medieval building is the Sanctuary of San Lussorio. Selargius also houses the Si'E Boi park and the covered theater, designed on the Ex Distillery which belonged to the lawyer and politician Sebastiano Boi. It was the largest and most modern distillery in Italy at the beginning of the twentieth century.
SELARGIUS IS HISTORICAL MEMORY
AND STORIES OF WOMEN AND MEN
OF THE PAST AND OF THE PRESENT.
History and stories of those who inhabited and inhabits it, in those Campidanese houses built with mud and straw bricks, called ladiri, who can still be admired today walking through the streets of the center. Some of those houses every year, on the second Sunday of September, become strategic places for the celebration of the Ancient Marriage of Selargius: a marriage with traditional sardianian clothes that involves the whole community and beyond.
The beauty of Selargius also lies in the landscape aspect.
A few kilometers from the Molentargius Park and its salt pans, whose history is so tied to it that the town's name seems to derive from "Salarius", the pay of the salt pickers, renamed by the neighboring countries fura sale (thieves of salt). And if you prefer the natural landscape, do not miss a visit to the cappereti (whose capers, called tapparas in Sardinian language, are recognized as P.A.T. - Traditional Food Products), olive groves and vineyards in the countryside that surrounds the town and that makes you feel very far from the city center not hearing any noise.
Selargius is therefore genuine food, quality wines and beer, linked to traditions, enhanced in tastings and lunch in the ArkeoParco of the Neolithic village of Su Coddu. Selargius is also craftsmanship: from the old workshops of cobblers, blacksmiths, to modern craftsmen, such as the Pulli Ceramic Art Laboratory, where you can observe the Masters creating their works with typical bright colours.
Selargius Tour is organized in collaboration with the Confraternities of the Rosary and the Madonna d'Itria and with the archaeological association A.Cu.A.S.
